Scotty McAlarney has served as the Head Golf Coach at Mid Valley for the past 28 years. During his tenure, McAlarney has focused on building a program rooted in player development, competitive consistency, and strong character. His coaching philosophy emphasizes long-term growth, teaching fundamentals, building confidence, and helping student-athletes learn how to effectively manage their game both mentally and strategically.

Under McAlarney’s leadership, the Mid Valley golf program has established a strong reputation for competitiveness and consistency. The program has achieved nine consecutive playoff appearances, produced numerous All-Conference and All-Regional selections, and developed a culture built on sportsmanship, discipline, and team unity. McAlarney takes pride in preparing his players to compete with integrity while fostering personal growth both on and off the course.

In addition to his role at Mid Valley, McAlarney is a Master Golf Instructor and Academy Director with more than 30 years of professional teaching experience. He delivers over 1,000 instructional lessons annually and operates a year-round golf academy. His instructional expertise includes swing mechanics, short-game development, on-course strategy, and mental preparation for competitive play. This extensive background allows him to incorporate modern swing analysis and advanced player development techniques into the Mid Valley program.

McAlarney also serves as the Director of Instruction at the “A Swing for Life” Golf Academy, where he develops training programs, produces instructional content, and designs learning tools that help golfers improve more efficiently. These resources provide additional development opportunities for his high school athletes and reflect his commitment to innovative teaching methods.

Throughout his career, McAlarney has remained active in the broader golf community through writing for golf publications distributed worldwide, content creation, and product innovation. His instructional work has earned several professional honors, including being named a Top 50 Golf Instructor by the World Golf Teachers Federation (2024–2025) and a five-time Top 100 Golf Instructor by the W.G.T.F. He was also the recipient of the Readers’ Choice Award for Best Golf Instructor from 2015 through 2022 and previously competed professionally on the W.G.T.F. mini-tour at the AA level.

One of the most rewarding aspects of McAlarney’s career has been the impact he has had on his student-athletes. Many of his players have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, while others have carried the lessons of discipline, patience, and perseverance learned through the program into their academic and personal lives. McAlarney strives to create a positive, supportive environment where every athlete feels valued, challenged, and motivated to improve.

McAlarney remains committed to continuing the tradition of excellence within the Mid Valley golf program while helping student-athletes develop the skills, character, and confidence needed to succeed both on the course and beyond!
